Victorious Living Begins With Knowing Who You Are

Imagine the kind of life we could live bold, fearless, and purpose-driven if we fully embraced the truth of who we are in Christ. So often, we are limited not by the lack of power available to us but by our lack of understanding of our identity as born-again believers. The moment we put our faith in Jesus, something radical happens within us. We are no longer the same. We are born again not in flesh, but in Spirit and this transformation changes everything.

Spirit, Soul, and Body: A Biblical Perspective

To truly walk in the power and authority given to us by Jesus, we must understand the triune nature of our being: Spirit, Soul, and Body. Each part has its unique role, and when understood correctly, we begin to live from the inside out governed not by our flesh or emotions but by the Spirit of God within us

The Spirit – The Real You

Our spirit is the core of our being the part that is instantly made new at the moment of salvation. When the Bible says we are a “new creation” in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), it is speaking of our spirit. This is the eternal part of us, created in the righteousness and holiness of God (Ephesians 4:24). In our spirit, we are just as Jesus is blameless, righteous, pure, and filled with divine life.

He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” —1 Corinthians 6:17

This means that the Spirit of Christ dwells within us, and our spirit has been united with His. It is untouched by sin and completely holy—not by our effort, but by the finished work of Jesus on the Cross. If we could truly grasp this truth, we would stop living like mere humans and start living as sons and daughters of God carriers of His very presence.

The Soul – The Ongoing Transformation

While our spirit is made perfect the moment we are saved, our soul which consists of our mind, will, and emotions is still in the process of being renewed. Romans 12:2 urges us to be “transformed by the renewing of your mind,” meaning our thoughts and beliefs must align with the new reality of our spirit.

This is where many believers struggle. Though they are spiritually alive and filled with the power of God, they live defeated lives because their minds are still conformed to worldly thinking, emotional instability, or lies from their past. Salvation is not just a ticket to heaven; it is a transformation of the entire person. But this transformation takes intentional cooperation  yielding to the truth of God’s Word and allowing it to renew and save the soul.

Receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. —James 1:21

This ongoing process doesn't happen overnight. But the more we renew our minds with the Word and submit our will to God's, the more our soul begins to reflect the reality of our new spirit. We begin to think like Christ, desire what He desires, and feel peace instead of chaos.

3. The Body – A Vessel for Kingdom Use

Lastly, there is the body the physical house we live in for a short time. Our body is not yet redeemed; it is still subject to decay, temptation, and death. But even here, the grace of God is sufficient. Scripture tells us to bring our bodies “as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God” (Romans 12:1). Though the body is temporary, it can be submitted to the Spirit and made a vessel for God’s use.

Paul says, “I discipline my body and bring it into subjection” (1 Corinthians 9:27). Why? Because even though our body will one day return to dust, it plays a crucial role in carrying out the will of God on earth. Our hands can heal, our voice can preach, our feet can go where the Gospel must be heard all when the body is surrendered under the authority of the Spirit.

We must remember: the flesh will always resist the Spirit. But as we walk in understanding of who we are, we learn to let the spirit rule, and the body serve, rather than the other way around.

Living from the Spirit Outward

Most Christians live from the outside in, allowing their circumstances or feelings to dictate their actions. But God calls us to live from the inside out from the spirit, through the soul, and over the body. When we reverse the order letting the flesh or soul lead we walk in defeat, fear, and confusion. But when we allow our spirit (united with Christ) to take the lead, we walk in peace, clarity, authority, and victory.

Imagine a Church where believers walk in the full revelation of their spiritual identity where emotions don’t dictate truth, where thoughts are anchored in the Word, and where bodies are used for holy purposes. This is the victorious life Jesus died to give us.

Conclusion

We are not trying to become something we’re not we are simply learning to walk in what we already are. We are not beggars hoping for mercy; we are sons and daughters seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). When we truly understand that our spirit is already perfected, our soul is being renewed, and our body can be brought under the Spirit’s authority, we begin to live lives that reflect the Kingdom of God.

So let us no longer be defined by our emotions or circumstances. Let us not live as if we’re trying to earn what’s already been given. Instead, let us walk boldly in the Spirit aware of who we are, Whose we are, and the incredible power that is at work within us.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us Ephesians 3:20
